The University of Porto is the second largest public university in Portugal after the University of Lisbon. Founded in 1911, today the University of Porto is home to more than 30.000 students and employs close to 2.000 members of staff. The university has a strong research focus: R&D activities have significantly expanded in recent years, largely due to increased funding for R&D centres, academic excellence, and availability of research grants. The University of Porto has 14 faculties, a business school, and more than 50 research centres. It is consistently ranked among the best Portuguese universities, and in Europe’s top 100.
