Founded in 1854 and initially known as the Catholic University of Ireland then as the Royal University, University College Dublin (UCD) came to be known as such in 1908. This leading research-intensive university has strongly focused on the development of modern Ireland through its engagement with Irish society on every level and across every sphere of activity. UCD is Ireland’s largest university and offers a variety of educational programmes to its students.
Research and innovation play a key role at UCD. Namely, scholars, research groups, start-up companies and large-scale collaborations with industry and other partners take part in innovative projects at UCD. Research is conducted within all of UCD’s disciplines and in multidisciplinary research programmes addressing global challenges.
