The Open Technologies Alliance (GFOSS) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2008. Today, it consists of 36 universities, research centers and various civil society organisations. The main goal of the NGO is to promote openness when it comes to technology in Greece through the use and the development of Open Standards and Open Technologies in Education, Public Administration and Business.

With most universities and research centres in Greece being involved, the organisation implements actions through collaboration and active participation of its members. GFOSS has a framework agreement with the Ministry of Education, within which the edulabs initiative has been launched, with the aim of facilitating access to technology in teaching and learning. Currently, the educational labs have been installed in more than 140 schools throughout Greece’s regions. The initiative, together with the other actions initiated by GFOSS, brings together a community of around 330 teachers, who take part in open education projects.
