The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is one of the world’s largest non-profit research institutes for software technology, based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods. Founded in 1988 as a non-profit public-private partnership (PPP), DFKI manages research facilities in the cities of Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Bremen, including a project office in Berlin and structures activities in 24 research departments, competence centres and laboratories.
DFKI (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz) is Germany’s leading research centre, involved in the field of innovative software technology and its application through the use of AI methods and techniques. The centre is engaged in the development of prototypes and patentable solutions in the area of information and communication technology (ICT) and collaborates with stakeholders and organisations to promote Germany’s role as a global leader in the development of cutting-edge solutions in research and technology. The centre is funded by government agencies on European and national level: the European Commission, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the German Federal States and the German Research Foundation (DFG). Industry partners from different sectors also participate.
