The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) conducts independent research and shares best practices to advance gender equality and eliminate gender-based discrimination. As the European Union’s agency dedicated to gender equality, EIGE supports efforts to create equal opportunities, enabling individuals to thrive regardless of their gender or background. EIGE combines research, data, and practical tools to assist policymakers in designing inclusive and transformative measures that promote gender equality across all aspects of life. The agency also effectively communicates its expertise and findings while collaborating with partners to raise awareness. This work extends across EU Member States, EU candidate and potential candidate countries, and at the EU level.

As the EU’s gender equality agency, EIGE:

  • Provides research and collects and analyzes gender equality data with an intersectional approach.

  • Develops methods to improve gender statistics and data collection.

  • Shares reliable and comparable data and information, guided by a hope-based approach.

  • Measures gender equality progress at both EU and Member State levels.

  • Creates methodological tools and offers technical support for integrating gender perspectives into EU and national policies.

  • Collaborates with EU institutions, Member States, international organizations, NGOs, equal opportunities bodies, universities, research centers, social partners, media, and EU sister agencies.
