The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) was founded in 2013 by the Association of Colleges, Association of Employment and Learning Providers and Holex, with a purpose to oversee development of the workforce. The ETF support teachers and leaders across the Further Education and Training sector to help them achieve their professional development goals for the benefits of both learners and employers across England.

The work of the ETF has three key principles:

  1. The organisation exists for the benefits of learners, achieved by improving the professionals practices of teachers and leaders in the sector.
  2. The ETF exists as a means to an end, not the end itself.
  3. The ETF supports professionals to be better than they are already, identifying excellence and seeking to understand and disseminate it through collaborative practice. Although the work of the ETF focuses on FE and training, expert challenges and support are brought in from outside the sector.
