Distributed Systems and Internet Technologies Lab (DISIT) and research group is one of the the most active ICT labs of the University of Florence. Established in 1994, DISIT has coordinated a number of European Commission projects and has developed research, development and innovation projects, on both national and international scale. DISIT has received a numerous awards and is regularly involved with top level international conferences, advisory boards, and committees. 

The main research areas of DISIT includes big data, artifical intelligence, natural language processing, distributed systems, formal models, metrics definitions and assessment. Currently, DISIT are participating in European Commission Calls in: Big Data, Smart Cities and Distributed Systems, Smart City models and applications, Collective Awareness Platforms, Creative industry, creativity and elearning, and Smart cloud.
