The Cypriot Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth is responsible for all education levels in Cyprus: public and private schools, pre-primary, primary and secondary education, tertiary education and higher education. It also proposes an educational budget, drafts new laws and implements existing ones. Vocational education and training also falls under the remit of the Ministry.
The Ministry employs around 500 members of staff and works with 12.000 teachers across the education system in Cyprus. For the year 2023 to 2024, the Ministry will increase state provided and free pre-school education for children from the age of 4 onwards, in line with the priority of making education more accessible and promoting lifelong learning from an early age. The Ministry has an Office, which deals with EU and international affairs, such as international cooperation, EU relations, and participation in EU-funded projects. The Office also facilitates the adaptation and replication of EU-wide best practices in digital skills and education.
The website of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth contains information regarding the Cyprus Educational System, the Departments, Services and Committees of the Ministry.
The website is a useful source of information and provides access to announcements, circulars, newsletters, annual reports and statistical data. Additionally, it provides information for a variety of educational programmes and access to educational material for all levels of education.
