The initiative, led by the Women’s Algorithm civic association, aims to foster interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The results of three years of intensive work and activities in the field of increasing the digital and technical skills of the civic association with youth pointed to the fact that young people, their parents or teachers do not have a sufficient overview of STEM study opportunities in Slovakia. Research by a civic association among girls in 2023 showed that ignorance of the possibilities for further study is an obstacle that discourages them from studying technical directions. At the same time, international research shows that by 2030 there will be a shortage of 11% of STEM professionals in the EU. At the same time, only less than 13% of computer science and computing students at universities are girls. Their low representation is subsequently reflected in the labour market, where women account for only 17.4% of ICT specialists in Slovakia.

The primary goal of the civic association is to increase the proportion of girls in STEM fields of study. At the same time, he considers it essential for the whole country to benefit from the opportunities coming with the advancement of information technology for this reason, the STEM study website is intended for all those who make decisions about their future today.

What does STEM offer?

  • Extensive database of STEM/STEAM study possibilities: STEM studies addressthe problem of ignorance of the possibility of further study through the creation of an extensive database where future students will find STEM education opportunities at primary, secondary and university schools across Slovakia. The STEM database of schools is being continuously expanded to include other learning opportunities such as dual learning.
  • Interactive free online course Learn more about STEM: The course is designed to open the door to the fascinating world of STEM/STEAM for students, parents and teachers. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of STEM/STEAM directions, practical advice on how to choose the right study pathway, how to develop the necessary skills and how to use their talents and skills to solve global problems.
