Riga TechGirls has launched its first program, which is available to anyone internationally. The programme, a digital master’s degree called Digital ABC, focuses on developing digital skills for those working in the NGO sphere. The program is free to participate thanks to a partnership with Google and all participants are welcome, regardless of gender or geography.
The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) shows that only 56 % of Europeans have fundamental digital skills, including information and data management, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, security and problem-solving capabilities. Addressing this gap, the DigitalABC training programme specifically aims at improving the digital skills of staff in non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The RTG initiative is a pioneering international initiative. Previous RTG programmes have been tailor-made for education professionals, creative workers and health practitioners, bringing together more than 22,000 participants.
“Acting within a non-governmental organisation, we are fully aware of the challenges inherent in our day-to-day operations and how digital skills and tools can effectively overcome them. These skills can enhance the efficiency of teamwork, encourage collaboration between partners and target audiences, and conserve the most valuable resource – time. Therefore, we express our gratitude for the trust given by Google.org, as evidenced by the establishment of the digital ABC programme for non-governmental organisations, giving us the chance to get on the world stage! – Paul Siliš, co-author of Riga TechGirls
The programme will be conducted online in English, focusing in particular on the most relevant competences that non-governmental organisations need in their day-to-day activities. The curriculum comprises a series of master courses segmented into four modules, covering topics such as project management, data management, digital tools and emerging technologies.
The Digital ABC programme supports ‘Google Impact Challenge: Technology for the social good’, which strives to strengthen projects dedicated to strengthening a ‘more resilient Europe’.
Participation in the training is completely free of charge and is scheduled to take place from 18 to 6 December 2023. Applications have now been initiated and people of all genders and locations are encouraged to submit applications via digitalabc.org.
