Bratislava on 20 February – hackathony continues in 2024. Innovative events, full of ideas and solutions in the field of public administration or digitalisation, which we then help bring to life. To date, the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation of the Slovak Republic has organised six successful hackathones. We therefore continue to do so and we announce another call on hackathons in Slovakia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. Do you also have an idea on how to modernise public services and simplify citizens’ daily lives? Do not hesitate to get involved.

The Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation of the Slovak Republic (MIRRI SR) actively supports the modernisation of public services through hackathones, original events that push the services of the state or municipalities forward. I am pleased that the innovative hackathones project is continuing. This is an example of good practice that engaging the expert community brings unconventional perspectives to the public administration. The result is new, digital services for citizens,” said Ivan Ivan Ivančin, State Secretary of the MIRRI SR.

The MIRRI SR has now launched a new call on hackathons. It aims to helpbeneficiaries acquire innovative technological solutions that help improve the quality of life of people in Slovakia. It is open to the participation of ministries, other central public administrations, municipalities, cities and higher territorial units until 5 April 2024.

Up to six successful applicants will be supported, for whom MIRRI will organise thematic hackathones in cooperation with Campus Cowork during the period 2024-2025. The development of the winning digital solutions will be financed under the Slovak recovery and resilience plan under the Component 17: Digital Slovakia with EUR 720000. Therefore, if you are aware of an issue in a public administration that would bring citizens’ services to a new level, do not miss your chances and apply.

The success of this project is also evidenced by the last three hackathones organised in 2023 for regional authorities – Prešov, Trenčín and Bratislava – Staré Mesto. The winning solutions did not fall with dust, on the contrary. They are now in the implementation phase. It is a fantastic news because the successful implementation of hackathones projects in 2023 is a signal to us that this project makes sense. The feedback is positive not only from municipalities but also from public administration institutions, which strongly welcome such support for innovation and the development of digital solutions.

We were also noticed in The Innovation in Politics Awards 2024 as an excellent example of political innovation in Europe. Our Hacknime.to project was selected as one of the ten finalists in the Democracy Technologies category. It was selected by a jury composed of 1086 European citizens from 334 political projects. The outcome will be presented at the final ceremony in Barcelona in early May.

This year we await the organisation of five other hackathones, who were successful in the previous call, out of the 14 applications applied for. It will bring another wave of ideas and projects that can make a significant contribution to the modernisation and efficiency of public administration.
