Consideration of artificial intelligence in the education system” is a guide from the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. It is the result of intensive exchanges between experts. The aim of the document is to raise awareness among teachers or interested persons in the education system about the use of artificial intelligence (AI), to identify possible potentials and scenarios of use in education and to exploit educational potentials.

The guide provides introductory basic information on the functioning of AI-based systems or machine learning. Building on this, it discusses the potential and risks of artificial intelligence and raises awareness of critical reflection on ethical and data protection aspects.

Benefits of AI in education 

Finally, the document focuses on concrete applications of artificial intelligence in the education system. In this context, concepts such as deep learning or learning analytics are explained, or how learning processes can be individualised through machine learning.

The Guide specifically describes possible scenarios that support and reduce the burden on teachers in practical educational life. Examples include automated collections of ideas, AI-assisted planning of entire teaching sequences or variant-rich creation of tasks. The possibility of editing individual educational sequences multimedia or using automated translations for intercultural communication is also described.

It also outlines AI-related training for teachers. In this context, particular emphasis is placed on the Digital Basic Education Course, which is specifically dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the second module.

Prevent abuse and plagiarism

The instructions also include the subject of automated texts and the plagiarism question. The misuse of AI in drafting must in any event be prevented in the context of teaching. In this context, the issue of fictitious services through AI will also be addressed and how to address this. The aim is to use the software in a didactical and productive way in the educational context.
