In the DITEC Opportunity Award 2023, female students will present their views on information technology for the 5th consecutive year. The winners awarded by the jury will also receive a financial reward.

(Bratislava, 30 October) – Laureate of the Nobel Prize for Economics this year became Claudia Goldin for her research into the phenomenon of the gender gap – an invisible gender gap that is still present in the pursuit of career goals. We think that all people should have equal opportunities. This is why we are already organising the 5th edition of the DITEC Opportunity Award at the ITAPA International Congress 2023. “Information technology is a fast-moving part of every one of us’s lives, the sector is of course hungry in skill people. In DITEC, we recognise that supporting girls interested in IT is an important part of our mission and we are therefore also launching the current 5th competition. The phenomenon of artificial intelligence will be a central theme of this year,” says Anna Záhorčáková, company director of company and ambassador for women in IT, which has been organising opportunities competitions for female students in Slovak secondary schools since 2019.

The Opportunity Award 2023 is open to girls who are students of any secondary school in the Slovak Republic (4 years of study, 5 years of study and minimum quintes of 8 years) and are interested in IT. How to do it? It is sufficient for them to prepare any form of presentation with their opinion on one of the following three topics:

1. AI for a better world: Propose a project where AI could be used to improve services to citizens.

2. Ethical Artificial Intelligence: Propose a solution to ensure that AI behaves ethically. So that solutions respect privacy and ensure equality.

3. Technology and culture: How can technologies influence and change culture and the way cultural heritage and values are shared and preserved? Does AI take the work of artists and creative professions or not?

Secondary schoolchildren may have their ideas processed in any form (text up to 2 pages A4, PowerPoint/or similar presentation of up to 12 slides, video up to 3 minutes, any other comparable format appropriate to the extent appropriate to current IT technologies/e.g. audio or audio-free video, up to 3 minutes, etc.). /or a combination of the above, not exceeding the above limits, to be sent by 15 November 2023 to studentka@ditec.sk. In addition to the DITEC Opportunity Award 2023, the three entries evaluated by the expert jury will be rewarded with symbolic financial rewards. We will discover the winners’ names at the ITAPA International Conference Galander on Thursday 23 November 2023. You can find full details, together with the status of the contest, at www.opportunity.sk.

“To be a member of a professional jury assessing the contributions of skill girls interested in IT is not only a honour but also a very pleasant duty for me every year. We look forward to receiving all the entries and wish the participants to be happy and bright mind,”says Anka Záhorčáková.

Questions and Answers on DITEC Opportunity Award 2023:

What is the meaning of the competition?

Information technology is pushing our lives forward by mile steps. However, all the live brains are needed for development – and without skill women – this will not happen. TikTokerka or future instagram influencer? Or do you like to create a video?
