A brand new CyberEducation Platform by ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cyber Security, went live in October 2024, in time for this year’s edition of the EU Cybersecurity Month. Every October in Europe is dedicated to the topic of cybersecurity, with tons of activities, events, and learning opportunities taking place throughout the month.
An urgent need for cybersecurity knowledge & competence
With the fast development of technologies like AI, machine learning, robotics and others, cybersecurity has long been recognised as a top priority on both national and EU level. Cybersecurity skills are even more sought after than specialised IT competence, and Europe has an acute shortage of skilled cyber security experts. What is more, a safe and secure environment can lay down the necessary foundations for ensuring European sovereignty and competitiveness in a changing geopolitical landscape of international affairs.
Boosting the number of cybersecurity experts working and living in Europe is crucial to reaching a key skills target of the EU Digital Decade: getting to 20 million ICT experts with advanced digital skills in the EU by 2030.
ENISA marks 20 years of shaping online safety in EU
ENISA was first founded in 2005, and since then has worked to ensure a high shared level of cybersecurity throughout Europe’s regions. ENISA helps shape EU cyber policy, supports a higher trustworthiness of EU ICT products, services, and processes with cybersecurity certification schemes. It also supports EU Member States and EU bodies in navigating the cyber challenges of tomorrow.
Bright, cyber-focused future: ENISA’s new CyberEducation platform
In October 2024, ENISA launched its new CyberEducation platform, with the goal of supporting a positive transformation of the EU education sector towards cybersecurity. The new platform acts as a central hub for cybersecurity educational resources, tailored for both primary and secondary schools in each Member State.
Main features of ENISA’s new Platform
ENISA’s CyberEducation Platform hosts an interactive map of the European Union’s Member States. Click on each country to find educational resources on the topic of cybersecurity, and many more activities you can dive straight into.
The new Platform complements already existing initiatives such as ENISA’s CyberHead Database – a database with higher education institutions and programs in cybersecurity, and the various resources it has developed in the context of the EU Cybersecurity Month annual campaign, and the EU Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC).
‘Whether you’re an educator, parent, or student, the ENISA CyberEducation platform is your go-to resource for advancing cybersecurity literacy and resilience in Europe’s schools’.
