In its decision of 30 November 2022, the Government adopted the National Digitalisation Strategy, which sets out the objectives and planned measures in the field of domestic digitalisation for the period 2022-2030.

The National Digitalisation Strategy (hereinafter: Strategy, NDS) aims to help Hungary, recognising the need for digital transformation, to put digital infrastructure, the economy, education and digital public services at the centre of its competitiveness and modernisation efforts.

The actuality of the preparation of the Strategy is due to the completion of the National Infocommunications Strategy in 2020 and the fact that out of the five central priorities of the European Union’s regional and cohesion policy for 2021-2027, the investment priority “Smarter Europe” explicitly highlights the importance of digitalisation, placing it on a level with the thematic areas of innovation and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. The first EU document in the area of digitalisation until 2030 is the Digital Compass (Path to the Digital Decade) policy programme, which guides the digital transformation of businesses, the digitalisation of public services, secure and sustainable digital infrastructures and the development of digital skills. These goals are also reflected in the National Digitalisation Strategy with its pillar structure.

As a framework strategy, the NDS systematises, consolidates, updates and, if necessary, supplements the assessment of the situation, the vision and the toolkit of government documents produced so far in the context of digitalisation.
