Digital literacy and tackling disinformation have never been more important, calling for reinforced efforts across society to tackle these issues. Education and training have a crucial role to play in developing the required competencies from an early age and throughout life.
It is also essential for education and training practices to reflect and to launch open conversations about phenomena, including algorithms, ‘information bubbles’ and ‘echo chambers’, which may present particular issues in the digital sphere.
Teachers and educators need to be further supported with guidance and examples of good practices concerning how to respond to the issue of disinformation and promoting digital literacy.
To addresses these challenges, the European Commission is looking for experts to join the group on Tackling Disinformation and Promoting Digital Literacy Through Education and Training. The main task will be to assist the European Commission – DG EAC and DG CNECT – with the preparation of common guidelines for teachers and educators on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training (Action 7 of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027).
The members of the group will support cooperation and the exchange of information, expertise and best practices on these topics between the Commission and relevant stakeholders. They will also assist the Commission in identifying how education and training can best foster digital literacy and enhance critical thinking and engagement with information online.
The deadline for applications is 29 June 2021.
