The Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association, LIKTA was established in 1998.
LIKTA has been the leading professional association, representing around 160 organisations in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, research and educational institutions, individual members (ICT professionals), and other associations.
The goal of LIKTA is to foster growth of ICT sector in Latvia by promoting the development of information society and ICT education, thereby increasing the competitiveness of Latvia on a global scale. The association provides professional opinion to government institutions when it comes to legislation and other issues related to industry, while also maintaining close relationships with other Latvian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and international ICT associations.
LIKTA is an active member of a network, which brings together several pan‐European associations: ALL DIGITAL, CEPIS – Council of European Professional Informatics Societies; ECDL – European Computer Driving License Foundation, IEEE Communications Society (COMSOC).
Latvia has set up a national Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, coordinated by LIKTA. The Coalition’s partners – including several Ministries – signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation in 2017, defining the Coalition’s priorities for 2017-2020.
