The SME SEC project provides a lightweight and easy-to-work with framework to support small and medium sized entreprises (SMEs) in integrating cybersecurity technology within business development and processes. The SME SEC initiative, funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, guides SMEs through the various possible vulnerabilities and risks across industry sectors and supports businesses in implementing an integrated cybersecurity system within organisational processes.

The SME SEC framework is the main output of the initiative, and contains 5 types of resources:

  • Awareness and training tutorials.
  • Definition and recommendation tools.
  • Vulnerability discovery and resolution tools.
  • Threat protection and response tools.
  • Lessons learned and good practices.

Based on up-to-date information about cybersecurity facts and developments, the framework makes it possible for businesses to adopt its approach so that it fits their particular context. Step-by-step guidance on solutions and techniques to protect sensitive data and information is also available, enabling SMEs to respond to customer demand for security better and prevent data breaches through upskilling of employees’ digital competences.
