The Digital Skills Accelerator aims to identify digital skills of students that should be prioritised through a self-assessment tool based on the European Commission’s Digital Competence Framework (DigComp) and its six competence areas. Areas covered include information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety and problem solving. Further, by providing a multi-media learning environment for students to develop their skills in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), the initiative aims to tackle the divide in digital skills among students.
The Digital Skills Accelerator project enhances students’ digital skills through the provision of training and self-assessment tools, tailored to evaluate digital competences against the European Commission’s Digital Competence Framework (DigComp). The project addresses an identified need throughout the European member states – the need to improve younger people’s access to technology and overall skills for work. The project combines a self-assessment tool, aligned with DigComp and an open training course on digital skills, called ‘The Essential Digital Skills Toolkit’.
Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the project’s resources and training aim address a specific skill gap identified in EU training landscape – young people’s access to technology with a focus on improving their employment prospects. However, the self-assessment tool and training can be taken by anyone interested in evaluating their digital competence and reaching a foundational understanding of digital skills.
